Here is a rare vintage Westach Catalog #82S, 8,000 RPM rear illuminated tachometer
NEW, REDUCED PRICE AND NO TAX
It’s a positive ground configured unit for a 6-cylinder engine and will fit in a 2 ¾” dash cutout. Best installation scenario is to attach it to the steering column (mounting bracket included). Westberg Manufacturing Inc. (known as Westach), is an American based company producing quality tachometers and instruments since 1944. You will not find one of these in this condition on eBay.
For all the Mopar collectors out there this instrument will work on all your Chrysler project cars from the mid 1920 – 1953 model years. So, how do we know it works? I personally removed it from my 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Club Coupe before selling the car in the late 50’s. The Westach has been in storage ever since and it’s in pristine condition (see photos) Connection to the vehicle is simple, negative to a switched battery connection (chassis positive ground) and one wire to the distributor/coil. Note: The Tachometer may be configured for negative ground 6-volt operation by repositioning the ground link (see photo #2).
Additional Info on automobiles using 6-volt positive ground this tachometer may be compatible with:
Chrysler, Packard, Nash, Hudson, Pierce, and Studebaker were positive-ground until the mid-fifties. The English-built, American-powered Metropolitan was positive ground. All British vehicles imported after WWII were positive ground, many stayed that way until the early seventies. The Ford Motor Company used negative ground polarity on the Model-T, then went to positive ground with the Model A, and back to negative ground in 1956. Virtually all vehicles went negative ground with the introduction of the 12-volt battery.
